Frequently Asked Questions

General:

  • No, not at all!

You can use your consultation to discuss as much as we can fit into that time frame! We have had clients use consultations to focus on only a kitchen, while others use the service to discuss parts of every room in their entire home.

  • The owner and principal designer of SG23 Design, Shila herself, runs every single design consultation.

  • At times Shila does create rough sketches onsite, however formal drawing sets for construction are not included in this package. Design consultation sessions aim to identify issues, improvements, and potential solutions. We will lay the groundwork to thoughtfully develop design solutions that maximize your return on investment.

Renovating or building from a sketch produced in less than two hours would not align with our professional standards. Such projects require extensive investigation and several reviews to produce a complete drawing set for any contractors.

Our drawing sets are exceptionally thorough—they are only provided through our Comprehensive Design and Full Service Design services.

  • Although we may review some products that may be an option for your space, formal specification of any product is only available through Comprehensive or Full-Service Design services.

  • Nope. After our time together, some clients feel they have enough guidance to take the reins moving forward, but others request a proposal for one of our more in-depth services. Spoiler alert: after getting a preview of how we work, most clients end up hiring us for Comprehensive or Full-Service Design.

However, a design consultation does not guarantee a proposal for Comprehensive or Full-Service design. Our design consultations are a way of figuring out if we're the right fit for your project.

  • Our consultations are true working design sessions, not meet and greets.

This fee covers the dedicated one-on-one time with Shila, as well as the research she does prior to your consult, the cost and time of travel to get to your site (for a Boutique Consultation), and the time spent writing up the recap.

  • Design consultation fees are one-time, non-refundable payments for each session. A consultation may be rescheduled up to 72 hours in advance.

  • No, refunds will not be issued for services already rendered.

Boutique Consultation Specific FAQs:

  • In about a week, you'll receive a recap with everything we discussed along with actionable design ideas to explore.

Although we may discuss a proposal for Comprehensive or Full-Service design, booking a consult does not inherently guarantee a proposal. We want to be sure we're the right firm for your project!

  • Some past consultations have included a walkthrough of the entire home. However, keep in mind that the more spaces you want to review, the less time we can spend on each. I recommend prioritizing four spaces that we definitely need to discuss in more depth during our session.

Depending on the scope, some clients have booked multiple Boutique Consultations.

    • Email a link with any inspiration imagery ideally a week or so ahead of time so that Shila has time to review and note any clarifying questions before the consultation. That way the 2 hour session can be used as efficiently as possible.

    • Don't clean up! Shila will need to see how you actually use the space, so that any advice provided is as relevant as possible.

    • Have your wifi code ready. Shila will pull up relevant imagery on her iPad to discuss during the consultation.

  • We can meet at our design studio in Riverton, NJ!

Redline Session Specific FAQs:

  • A recording of our Zoom session and any overlay sketches created during the session for reference.

  • No, the Redline Session is a stand-alone consultation. Updated drawings are not a part of this service.

The purpose of this session is to evaluate if the current design is meeting your needs and for Shila to provide suggestions to refine the submitted drawings.

    • Email us the drawings you currently have via email at least 48 hours before our session.

    • Start a list of questions that you might want to ask during our session.

    • Email any inspiration images you may have ahead of time or share your Pinterest board(s) links.
